Choosing the Perfect Artwork for your Space

For most of us, buying art for our homes does not come naturally. Unless you are immersed in the art world, it can feel daunting – do I go with black-and-white photography, or an abstract painting? How much should I invest? Where do I seek out pieces that I’ll like?

The beauty of procuring art is there is no right answer. It doesn’t need to be any more complicated than this: Buy what you like. If your taste is simple and monochromatic, then seek that out. If you’re looking to liven things up with some vibrancy, opt for something loud and eclectic.

Think about the colours and textures in your space and what type of piece might complement them. Then start the research – start with Google and Instagram, then visit some of the art galleries near you and start talking. Find out what’s happening in your local art scene, then show up! This is a great way to expose yourself to emerging artists. While it’s important to educate yourself, you don’t need to be an art expert to enjoy it!

Let’s say you fall in love with a piece, but don’t know much about the artist. Get to know them! Or at the very least, research them and follow their social media accounts. Most artists will have a presence online and would be happy to converse about their work.
